Membership in The Legion Family

Legionnaires, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion

All three organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship. Our Family boasts a combined total membership of nearly 4.2 million members worldwide and we are still growing.

Membership to this exclusive family has its requirements.

To join the American Legion you must have served honorably during, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, having received an Honorable Discharge from such service, or be in the U.S. Military on active duty anywhere in the world.

To join the S.A.L. you must be a male descendant, adopted son or stepson of a member of The American Legion or a male descendant of a veteran who died in service during World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, or who died subsequent to their Honorable Discharge from such service.

To Join the American Legion Auxiliary you must be the mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand-daughter, great-grand-daughter, or grandmother of members of The American Legion, or deceased veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during the listed war eras. Step relatives are also eligible. A woman who is eligible for membership in The American Legion is also eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary.

Membership Dues:

  • American Legion • $30.00 Annually
  • American Legion Auxiliary • $20.00 Annually
  • Junior Aux • $7.00 Annually (Under 18 years of age)
  • SAL • $30.00 Annually
  • Junior SAL • $10.00 Annually (Under 18 years of age)
  • Riders • $10.00 Annually
