Monthly Newsletter for November 2009
Volume 4, Issue 11
Determination, Enthusiasm, and Goodwill are vital ingredients in a recipe for success. These three things represent primary virtues that correspond with people willing to unite and protect the rights of Veterans. Two of these virtues are not hard to attain. With determination we can continue to serve our country, with enthusiasm we can encourage others to join us. Goodwill? Now that's the hard one. Not because it's not within us, but because it requires attention.
The definition of Goodwill is benevolence. So in the spirit of goodwill I would like to thank all the members that help out here at the Post; Post Officers for their long hours and patience, the Honor Guard for their dedication, House Committee for their repairs and maintenance, volunteers that work in the Kitchen for dinners, breakfast, brunch and fish fry, the BINGO volunteers and supporters, lounge personnel and patrons, and the many volunteers that lend a hand in Post events.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
For God and Country
Tony Alvarez, Commander Post 130
We are on track with our membership renewals with 60.152%. Our goal is 65% by November 4th. For those of you that haven't sent in your membership renewal, remember you must have your 2010 membership card to relax in the lounge or attend any post activity after December 31st.
Do you have any friends or neighbors that are veterans and not Legion members? Invite them in to a Friday fish fry dinner and Karaoke in the lounge. Let them see that we have a great place to enjoy an evening out and that we have a good family atmosphere here at our Post. Let them know of the many things that Legionnaires do for the community. They may like the experience and decide to be one of us and join the American Legion.
For God and Country, God Bless America
Carl Pretz, Adjutant.

Hi Ladies,
What a great turnout at our meeting!! It means so much to the Auxiliary to see so many new faces. The District President, Maxine Spamer paid a visit to our meeting on October 15th and was impressed with the amount of members present.
I want to thank Sharon and everyone who helped make our goal of 55%. Great Job!! Let's make the next one!
Our "Make a Difference Day" was a success. Thank you Paula for going to the nursing homes with me.
We had our first Breakfast, Brunch and Dinner this year and I think all went well considering today's economy.
Don't forget our events this month that are on the calendar and our Paws for Patriots and Veteran's Rummage Sale.
Thank you to all that have helped in last months' events and please continue to frequent our meetings and events!
Love you all!
Candy Alvarez, President Unit 130
Happy Thanksgiving!
We will be closed to observe the holiday with family and friends.
Halloween has come and gone. Great costumes and a good time for everyone. Thank you Paula for all the decorations.
We are happy to welcome our friends from the north back to the community. We know there are a lot still missing, but happy to see those of you that are here.
We have Karaoke every weekend, both Friday and Saturday evenings from 7p till ??. Everyone is welcome to sing.
Thanks again,
Your Bartenders
The Halloweenie Run was a smashing success!
Thanks to all who helped and participated, with extra thanks and accolades to Ron Costa, Gary Wisenmandel and Candy Alvarez who worked kitchen duty and did an outstanding job in spite of being terribly understaffed.
To all the fantastic volunteers, thank you!! The money we raised will be used to further the goals of Post 130 - support of our local area Veterans and their families. This was a great team effort - proof that when we work together, we can do anything.
I hope you're all as proud of our Chapter and our Post as I am. It is a great feeling to be part of the Post family and know that we're making a positive difference in our community.
We are looking forward to the next Chapter 130 events including Swamp Cabbage Parade Bike Games and the 7th Annual Poker Run, scheduled for 10 April 2009.

Ray 'Bouncer' Leventhal, Director

Florida Chapter 130
Hope this finds everyone not to spooked out from Halloween.
The SAL will be providing finger food/appetizers in celebration of Marine Corp Day, Nov. 10th, at 3pm.
November 11 is Veterans Day and may we all reach out to a Veteran in need. It's a great day to visit the Memorial Park and remember those who sacrificed so much for the Freedom and Safety we all enjoy today.
Salute to Our Veterans.
God Bless our Post and Our Troops.
Craig Bartoshuk, 2nd Vice Commander
Squadron 130
Hello Everyone,
It is my sad duty to report we have lost three members this month.
CW Hollingsworth a WWII veteran who served as a Marine Corporal in the Pacific theater including Iwojima.
Ed Furman passed away along with Helen Holding, one of our friends from Canada. They will all be missed.
I would like to thank our Honor Guard for their dedication and service. One never knows when they will be called upon to serve. If you would like to join our Post's Honor Guard please contact our Sgt. at Arms, John Schall. Every volunteer is important.
Sam Renfro, Chaplain
Post 130 LaBelle
