Monthly Newsletter for June 2010
Volume 5, Issue 06
I hope that everyone had a good month especially Memorial Day weekend. The Memorial Day Ceremony at Fort Denaud Cemetery was well attended and well represented.
American Legion Post 130 along with American Legion Auxiliary Unit 130 were joined by: The VFW 10100, VFW 10100 Ladies Auxiliary, The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 144 and The City of LaBelle Mayor, Paul Puletti. Representatives of all these organizations spoke on behalf of the many sacrifices Veterans have made to preserve our freedoms. Mr. Carl Sharp gave a special dedication to the American Flag which adorned the graves of our fallen comrades. Thanks to all of you that helped place the flags on the gravesites on the Saturday May 29th; special thanks to the 4H Youth Club for their help.
On the business side of things the post held its Election of new Officers at the last General Meeting on May 20th, 2010. Thanks to all that attend the meetings and all of you that support the Post. We need your help and we can't do it without you.
Remember the General Meeting is at 7pm on the third Thursday of the month. All Legion members are welcome.
Your newly elected officers for 2010/2011 are:
For God and Country
Tony Alvarez, Commander Post 130
At each general meeting of the American Legion, we recite the preamble of the American Legion's Constitution. Part of that recitation includes our pledge to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, to maintain law and order, to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism, to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation and to promote peace and good-will on earth.
Additionally, we honor those unsung heroes of our lives, including the paid and volunteer law officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics who selflessly give of themselves every day to help ensure our health, safety and freedom.
To this end, we continue to volunteer at our Post and carry on the service to our nation which began when we were on active duty.
Congratulations to our new slate of officers. We're all looking forward to another great year at Post 130.
For God and Country,
Carl Pretz, Adjutant.

I'm honored to be serving a second term as Director of the American Legion Riders, Chapter 130. Our Chapter has done some incredibly wonderful things to help veterans and their families, and we will continue to do just that.
In conjunction with our brothers and sisters in Lehigh Acres, N. Ft. Myers, Cape Coral and Bonita Springs, we've raised over $3,000 for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship alone. Our Chapter has created a new scholarship for veterans attending Edison College; this scholarship is in addition to the two we provide for local children of veteran families who are entering college.
This has been a great year and as we enter our 8th year, I'm quite certain we'll continue to support our vets, our Post and our nation
