Commander's Corner

Now with elections out of the way and Department Convention behind us we are preparing for the Installation of Post Officers on July 15th and the annual Fallen Heroes Event on July 24th which will be held this year at our Post.

At Department Convention the Post received two awards at the state level. John Schall was Runner Up for the Eddie Humer Award for Best Sgt At Arms, Congratulation Johnny! And the Post also received The Margaret Skaggs Award for Best Blood Donor Program in the State. I would like to thank all of the Post members and Community blood donors that help make this possible because of you Post 130's Blood Donor program is a success and we were able to save over 700 lives and a special thanks from Valerie Diaz, the Florida's Blood Centers Donor Development Coordinator to: Bill Davis, Pat Hashman, Phyllis Moody, Annie Schall, Barbara Cochran, Paula Renfro, Ida Wragg and Mary Bartoshuck, thank you for your group efforts and enthusiasm.

Thanks to all the outgoing and incoming Post Officers, without your service we could not go on.

"It's so easy to make a difference, Volunteer"

For God and Country
Tony Alvarez, Commander Post 130

From the Post Adjutant

Have a great 4th of July weekend. Remember that on the 15th is installation of officers. All officers need to renew their membership for the installation.

On the 24th we will have a ceremony for the Fallen Heroes at the new Labelle Veterans Park at 9:00am. There will be dinner at the Legion dining hall after.

Now something from Senator George Lemieux: "As we celebrate that which makes America great, unique, and a beacon of hope for millions around the world, let us remember our Founding Fathers who charted a course away from tyranny, and instead put our country on a path toward respecting the 'unalienable Rights' to 'Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness,' as stated in our Declaration of Independence. Let us celebrate our independence and remember and honor those in the service of our nation on the front lines of war, securing our country and protecting our freedom."

For God and Country,
Carl Pretz, Adjutant.

From the Auxiliary

Greetings,

What a busy month we had! We brought home eleven trophies from the District Constitutional Conference and several from the Department Convention. We are so proud of our Unit and what it has accomplished this year.

This is a tough newsletter to write, I have really enjoyed writing them this year as your President and will be passing the torch to the next President, Sharon Leventhal. It has been a very busy year and I would like to thank all of those that have helped make this Unit successful this year.

I'm looking forward to our Installation of Officers on the 15th of July and hope to see everyone there. It has been a pleasure to be your President this year!

Sincerely, Candy Alvarez President Unit 130

Lounge Report

Happy 4th of July! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Not much is happening this time of year. We'd like to thank all our local customers for supporting the club and the Post. Everyone has been great. Remember there's entertainment every Friday and Saturday in the Lounge and the Musician's Jam Session is the 3rd Sunday of each month. This month that's July 18th.

We'd like to thank the House Committee for all the good work they do, keeping up the maintenance and cleaning up in and around our Post and Lounge. Thanks to Cutty, Costa, Allen, Mims and Gary - We appreciate all you do!

Paula is in the Hospital. We miss her and our prayers are with her to get well soon.

American Legion Riders

This year's ALR meeting at Department Convention was truly a wonderful experience. I had the honor of presenting over $1,100 to our Department Coordinator on behalf of our Chapter - these funds will benefit the American Legion Legacy Scholarship, a program which our Post and our Chapter support. I had the opportunity to meet with representatives of many other Chapters from around the state and hope to be working with them towards our mutual goals - supporting our veterans and their families.

I'm pleased to announce that our Chapter will be working, in conjunction with our Post and other LaBelle Community organizations, towards the Inaugural LaBelle Bike Festival, scheduled for Saturday, 9 October 2010. Our state will be full of bikers, as this is the weekend before Biketoberfest in Daytona. Please help spread the word and lets work together to make this event a great success.

All incoming ALR Chapter 130 officers are urged to be at Post 130 for the Installation of Officers on 15 July 2010 at 7pm. Let's get 2010-2011 off to a great start!

For God and Country,

Sons of the American Legion

I am pleased to report that our Squadron received an award for 100% membership from our Detachment at the recent convention in Orlando. As our lead delegate, I attended the SAL General Meetings and had the opportunity to meet with many other delegates from around the state.

SAL District 13's incoming commander is Steve Gordon. We wish Commander Gordon well and look forward to working with him and Area Commander Jim Love this year.

God Bless
Ray Leventhal, incoming 2nd Vice Commander
