Monthly Newsletter for August 2009
Volume 4, Issue 8
Greetings,
I would like to start by thanking the previous commander and his staff for their service to the Post, and also thank the new Officers for their upcoming service. Those that volunteer their time as officers, do more than place themselves in the crosshairs. As officers and Committee chairmen, we accept the responsibilities that come with the positions; at times it is hard work and long hours. My hope for this year is that we will help one another to achieve all of our goals and at the same time develop a feeling of mutual accomplishment.
The Post installation of officers was a great event; the ladies of the Auxiliary once again did a wonderful job decorating the hall. The Post hosted many dignitaries of the Legion, Auxiliary and SAL; I would also like to extend my appreciation for the support and services of the District 13 Officers and Staff.
Special thanks to the three Ladies that helped serve all the meals to the Officers and their Guests, Diana, Nancy, and Sherrie.
"Volunteerism is the willingness of people to work on behalf of others, by contributing their time, energy, and talents to the causes they hold dear"
Thank You All.
For God and Country
Tony Alvarez, Commander Post 130
On July 25, 2009 at 9:30 AM, many community organizations and citizens of LaBelle gathered at the corner of State RD 80 and 29 to dedicate the LaBelle Veteran's Memorial Park. Our color guard, the auxiliary, legion riders and several American Legion members were present and took a major part in this dedication service. There were also representatives of the Armed Services, the City of LaBelle, Paul Puletti, the LaBelle Moose Lodge, the VFW post in LaBelle and Hendry County. Six memorial bricks were laid that day with relatives of LaBelle's fallen heroes present to help lay the bricks.
After the dedication service, the ceremony moved to the VFW Post 10100 for a benefit dinner to raise money for the memorial monument that will complete the park's design. For information on memorial bricks call the post.

I'm looking forward to a great year! I would like to thank all of last year's officers and members that contributed their time to the Auxiliary. Thanks to the incoming officers that will be dedicating their time as well.
This year my goal is to bring this Legion Family closer together- we are all here for the same purpose- to support our veterans and their families. I am grateful for the overwhelming support of all the ladies in the decorating of the hall for the Installation.
Kudos Ladies!! We were the first Unit to decorate in the new Rainbow Riders and Hot Air Balloon Theme! All the District 13 Officers and other distinguished guests expressed their sincere gratitude for our hospitality. We had a wonderful time and look forward to many more great times.
Love You All!
Candy Alvarez, President Unit 130

It is my pleasure and honor to assume the role of Director of the American Legion Riders, Florida Chapter 130 for the 2009-2010 year. I am looking forward to all the good we can do together for our veterans and their families, our community and our Post.
Thank you to all Chapter 130 members and officers who worked so hard to bring us to this point. As we enter our 7th year as a chapter of the ALR, I want to remind all American Legion Riders that we are first and foremost members of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion. This is our strength - we are a melting pot of the best of all the American Legion family has to offer. We're the best because we're actively involved and, well, we're bikers :)
Please remember that ALL American Legion family members are welcome to join the American Legion Riders. The only requirements are that you be current in your Legion membership and you want to support your post by joining our chapter. Annual membership dues are just $10.
Your 2009-2010 slate of officers are:
Tina McCuiston has accepted an appointed position as our Product Manager. Sharon Leventhal has agreed to handle membership applications and maintain our roster.

Our thanks go to all members who attended and helped us to support Post 130 through this event. Additional special thanks to SAL 1st Vice Commander, Steve White, who donated his karaoke services at the lounge, helping to keep the party going well past the time we stopped serving.
Please join me in congratulating SAL Squadron Commander Bob Mims for his election to the position of Chaplain for SAL District 13. We all know Bob will continue to be a positive force here and at District and we're proud of his successes.
