Commander's Corner

Dear Members,

This month has breezed by, but not without leaving its scars. Though we had good times and the Post was active we mourn the loss of family and friends and we pray for those that are ill and recovering.

Our Post is a small microcosm of society with all the fixings: happiness, sadness, desperation and hope. "Adversity, when embraced, tenders gifts, perhaps not always the ones you want, but often the ones you need".

Thank you all for supporting our Post. Special thanks to all of you that make breakfast, lunch and fish fry possible with a big thanks to Chef Martin for sharing his culinary skills.

To our friends returning north I wish you all a safe journey with the hope of seeing you next year. Here at the Post we will be establishing this year's new slate of officers, anyone who would like to be considered for a nomination, please contact the Post Adjutant.

For God and Country
Tony Alvarez, Commander Post 130

From the Post Adjutant

The Post has been having really good attendance at the Friday Fish Fry and Friday night karaoke in the lounge. Saturday nights are doing well with entertainment. Sunday breakfasts and brunch are doing better than expected. All in all the Post is doing well this winter season considering the state of the economy.

We could be doing better with membership renewals. If you know of any members that have not sent in their renewal please encourage them to renew and become active in all we do for our community and our veterans.

The month of March has given us a big share of sadness. Five Legionnaires have passed away. Three are members of our Post 130. Two are members from the north that spend their winters in our company. One of our Auxiliary members has also passed away. It is with great sorrow we give our condolences to their families and friends.

The father of Bill Davis is among those that passed on. A Post Everlasting ceremony will be held soon in his honor.

For God and Country,
Carl Pretz, Adjutant.

Happy Easter!

March was a great month and fun was had by all- I would like to especially thank Ray Martin and Tony Alvarez for all their help with Steak by the Ounce and all the others who helped with dinner, Brunch, Breakfast and the bingo canteen. We will be serving Brunch Easter Sunday and are having a Rummage Sale on the 17th.

Looking back on our year we have accomplished so much and have become so involved in our community, I am very proud to be a member of this organization. Our Veterans are the reason we do this, without them we would not have the freedoms we experience today.

I am sad to report the passing of Jane Boyle one of our Unit Past Presidents she will be greatly missed and our condolences to Bruce and their children.

God Bless You and all our Veterans

Sincerely,
Candy Alvarez
President Unit 130

Lounge Report

What can we say - March was Great. Thanks to all.

Steak by the Ounce from the Ladies Auxiliary with our own personal Chef Tony - Mmm Good. St. Paddy's Corned Beef & Cabbage with Chef Ray Martin was great. The food was wonderful on both ocassions - thanks guys.

We do have Bar Bingo every Tuesday night, 6:30p till ??

Our Florida weather has frozen us or drowned us - the price we pay to live in paradise, but we love it still.

This month we have our annual Riders Poker Run on the 10th. Come and enjoy, it will be a good time.

The next Jam Session in the lounge will be on the 18th of April at 1pm. Please come and enjoy the music.

Some of our snowbirds will be leaving soon. Thanks for your support this season. We have enjoyed you, we will miss you and hope to see all of you next season.

God bless and Happy Easter to Everyone,
Your Bartenders

American Legion Riders

It has been an exciting time for the Post and our Chapter. The March Poker Run to support the American Legion Legacy Scholarship was a success and we've got some additional T-Shirts for sale to members for only $15ea. These shirts say in bold, clear print "I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS". Who wouldn't be proud to wear that shirt?!? All proceeds will go to the Legacy Scholarship Fund on behalf of the SW Florida ALR. My congratulations to our Chapter as well as Lehigh Acres (323), North Ft. Myers (336) and Cape Coral (90) for participating and helping to make this run the success it was.

Our Chapter's 7th Annual Poker Run will take place on Saturday 10 April 2010. Registration Starts at 8:30, 1st Bike Out at 9:30. As always, we've a great ride planned - about 130 miles of open country roads followed by games, prizes, raffles, 50/50s and music. Don't forget, Post 130 is Open To The Public the weekend of 10-11 April, so all are welcome to come and enjoy the fun.

For God and Country,
Ray 'Bouncer' Leventhal, Director

From the Chaplain

Hello all,

I'm sad to report that our Post Charter will remain draped for at least another thirty days as we've lost more members this past month. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Included in those for whom we drape the Charter is the father of Past Commander Bill Davis. Post 130 will hold a Post Everlasting Ceremony in his honor soon.
